Organic Farms and Orchards In Missouri

Awhile back I did a post about organic farms and orchards near Chicago, my old home town. Now that we are located in Missouri, it is time for a new list.

I don’t eat meat, so I haven’t compiled the list to include meat products. For grass-fed meat, Eat Wild has done a phenomenal job compiling a map of Missouri farms.
You can visit their website here: Eat Wild’s Missouri Grass Fed Farm List And Map

A word of caution, I created this list as a shortlist for my own use later, so use this list at your own discretion and do your research. Make sure you contact the farm ahead of time to ensure they are open to visitors, still in business, and still farming organically, before you visit. Things seem to change quickly in the farming world, so better safe than sorry!

If you do notice a change in a farm’s status since this list was compiled (or if you know of a great one that I haven’t included), please let me know and I will update the list.

Happy Harvesting!

Late Summer Entertaining

As we enter August, we begin to turn our thoughts to the change of the seasons and the harvest time. Here is a mood board to inspire the design for your end of summer gatherings.

4th of July Entertaining Ideas for 2019

With one of our favorite summer holidays coming up in less than one week, I have been ramping up my search for decor and menu ideas with a more refined feel than most typical summer barbecue offerings. This was a more difficult search than anticipated since most summer parties tend to be simple outdoor barbecue type affairs. Who knew!? I will keep developing this board of ideas as I find more ideas and add a few of our own as we begin to entertain more at our new house.

Guests, Like Fish, Begin To Smell After Three Days

After moving to the Lake of the Ozarks we have had our fair share of house guests, some of whom we enjoyed hosting more than others. While I truly love entertaining; and always look forward to sharing our home with the people we actively invite to stay with us; there are sometimes unwanted “visits” that leave you feeling used and resentful toward your guests.

I created a special set of artwork to have on display for those “guests” who invite themselves (or worse, invite themselves and bring others), show up unannounced, are oblivious to the idea that the private areas of the house should be respected as such, or complain about us, our house rules, or food offerings. I wanted the designs to look cool enough to pass as regular decor in case I forget to remove them before the people I love are visiting, be somewhat more subtle than a welcome mat that merely says “go away” and hopefully, when placed in a less than subtle location, offers a helpful hint from one of our founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin.

“Guests, like fish, begin to smell after three days.”

I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same. His quote is as true today as it was in the 1700’s. Although, in my experience, some guests stink upon arrival.

Since I know we are not alone in this battle, I am offering these as part of a guestroom throw pillow set and artwork collection so others can put the message on display for their own house guests.

Of course, when all else fails, you can always say no. No is a very powerful word. 😉

In case you like the design, but would like it without the passive-aggressive text:

Also, since the idea of it makes me laugh… here is a “go away” doormat:

Happy Belated Father’s Day and Spring Update 2019

We have been extremely busy the past couple months with outside (work) deadlines, family gatherings and garden projects around the house so I haven’t had a chance to keep up with posts here lately. I am going to try to be better about that in the future. I can’t promise that life won’t carry me away again, but I will do my best to plan for that inevitability going forward.

This being our first year being able to garden here, we will be taking you along for the ride with garden progress photos shortly. We finally have the beginnings of our kitchen garden in place. It won’t be fully finished, from an aesthetic point of view, until probably next year, but at least it is functional for now. We are very excited about having our own organically grown veggies later in the summer.

We also recently finished our home gym renovation so stay tuned for a before and after post for that room’s design.

Finally for today, I hope you all had a wonderful Father’s Day this past weekend!
