This list is a good start for people beginning a gluten free diet. For those with severe reactions to gluten, there are a few other places gluten might hide that you need to be aware of. Spices (I learned the hard way), candies/breath mints (thank you Altoids for a few weeks of misery), nuts (read the ingredients and allergy panel first), lotion, soap, shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste, oats (even the gluten free oats can’t be handled by some with gluten issues), some cheeses, beer, malt liquors and other types of booze. I’m sure there are more hiding places I can’t think of at the moment, but the important thing you need to learn is to read the labels completely on EVERYTHING you use. If you don’t know what is in it, don’t use or eat it. Every time I forget this rule and think something should be safe I have gotten sick. Always read the label.
