Organic and Naturally Grown Farms Near Chicago

Organic farms near chicagoEvery year our family makes our annual apple picking trip – typically to southwest Michigan. Since apples are one of those crops that can be rather pesticide heavy, I have compiled a list of farms within driving distance of Chicago that are either Organic or Naturally Grown. So far, I have limited our search to Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan (this can be expanded upon later). Most on the list are u-pick, although not all of them are. I have listed the types of crops grown at the bottom of each entry.

Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte

Homemade Pumpkin Spice LatteCream Ingredients:
1 cup goat milk
3 tablespoons organic pumpkin puree
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
Organic palm sugar or stevia to taste (optional)

Fall is here!  To celebrate, we have re-made a favorite autumn treat in a healthier and much more digestible fashion.   Blend or whisk cream ingredients until the milk becomes frothy.  Pour over your favorite organic coffee.  Makes 2-4 servings depending on how much milk you prefer in your drink.

Safe Conventional Crops?

What a smart kiddo! Sweet potatoes were said to be one of the safe conventionally grown crops to eat. While I am not an expert in which chemicals are more or less harmful than others, I would much prefer that my sweet potatoes are not sprayed with anything. From this point further, we will be buying only organic sweet potatoes until we can grow them ourselves.
